GREG MEYER’S NATURE ACTIVITIES Birdwatching Fundamentals – Our evening class will discuss optics, field guides and the classification of major bird groups. We will follow that with a field trip to watch land birds and waterfowl. Informational meeting will be held on February 12th. February 16th & 22nd class locations will be discussed in the first meeting. Moonrise Kayak Tour at Elkhorn Slough – Join us for a memorable kayak trip to Elkhorn Slough where we go out with the tide, eat dinner on the beach, and watch the moonrise as we paddle home. Additional Kayak Equipment fee: $50 per person paid to Greg Meyer on the day of the trip. Single or Double Kayaks are available. Alviso Slough by Sea Kayak – We will paddle out to the open waters of the South Bay and the mudflats of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge and then ride the tide home. We will use double and single sea kayaks, no experience necessary. Equipment Fee: $50 per person paid to Greg Meyer on the day of the trip. Wildflowers of Fort Ord – Fort Ord is California’s newest National Monument and contains some of the largest stretches of undeveloped coastal land along Monterey Bay. We will take an easy walk through the trees, along sandy trails, stopping to look at the many species of unusual plants and beautiful wildflowers. Santa Cruz Mountains Earth Day Hike – Celebrate spring and nature on this special day as we hike along the Skyline trail in upper Sanborn County Park. We will walk about 6 miles of rolling terrain with some uphill on well-maintained trails. Brooks Island Kayak Tour – We will paddle along the shoreline, looking at the large colony of nesting gulls and terns and then pull out on the island to eat lunch. After lunch we can beach comb along the deserted dunes of Richmond looking for fossils, shells and interesting flotsam. We will be using comfortable double seat kayaks for beginning paddlers or singles for people with experience. Equipment Fee: $50 paid to Greg Meyer on the day of the trip.
