Recreation Swim OPEN: Monday, June 15th – Friday, August 7th 1:30 – 3:30PM Fee: $4: 15 yrs. and younger $6: 16 yrs. and older SWIM LESSON INFORMATION All swim programs are held at the Los Gatos High School Community Aquatics Center. All lessons are Monday-Friday in two-week sessions, 10 lessons, 30 minutes in length. You may enroll in only one session at a time. This will help reduce the number of transfers needed at the start of each session and the uncertainty of knowing if your child is ready for the next level. Registration for the next session will only take place at LGHS Community Aquatics Center on the last Wed. & Thurs. of each session from 9:45 AM-12:45 PM and 4:00 PM-6:45 PM. No registration for the next session will be taken at the LGS Recreation office and registration is closed on Fridays. Once a session has started only the Aquatic Coordinator may accept new registrations. This may be done at the pool site. Classes not meeting minimum enrollments will be cancelled or combined with another class. Additional classes may be scheduled. If you miss a class we cannot issue refunds, credits or schedule make- up classes. NO CLASS: 7/4. SWIM LESSON FEE SCHEDULE GROUP LESSONS SESSION FEES: Session 1-4: $155 Saturdays: Session 1: $45, Session 2: $60 PRIVATE LESSONS SESSION FEES: Sessions 1-4: $350 All classes below are listed in the recommended order of progression. CUTTLEFISH . This program is designed to teach children how to become accustomed to the water through playful interaction and games. Parent participation required. Parents learn about aquatic safety for children. This class does not teach children to be accomplished swimmers or survive in the water by themselves. Skills Checklist: Water adjustment (getting wet), exploring the pool, holding positions, front kick, front glide, passing, underwater exploration readiness, bubble blowing, back float, adjusting to water in back position, rolling over, arm movement and exiting water. Children must wear a swim diaper. GUPPY . Ages 3 and up. Prerequisites: Children MUST be able to take direction from an instructor and be comfortable in the water. Children will learn to float, glide and flutter kick on front/ back with support, introduction to front/back alternating arm strokes, blow bubbles, open eyes underwater and retrieve submerged objects, basic water safety including entering and exiting the water and introduction to wearing a life jacket. STARFISH. Prerequisites: Guppy skills. Children will learn: Rhythmic bobs, float without support on front/back, roll over from back to front and from front to back, front/back glide, flutter kick without support on front/back, introduction to front crawl and back crawl, retrieve objects from bottom of shallow water, and use of life jackets in deep water. SEAHORSE. Prerequisites: Starfish Skills. Children will learn/ work on: Swimming front crawl and back crawl for 15 yards, swim elementary backstroke for 10 yards, introduction to side breathing and breaststroke kick, tread water for 30 seconds, retrieve submerged objects from bottom of chest-deep water, jump and dive from a kneeling position into deep water, water safety skills including bobbing to safety and an introduction reaching assists. DOLPHIN. Note: This class is only held in the 25-yard lanes in 7 feet of water. Prerequisites: Seahorse Skills. Children will work on: Swimming freestyle with rotary breathing, swim backstroke, elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and sidestroke for 25 yards, treading water for 1 minute, introduction to dolphin kick, flip turns, and standing front dive. SHARK. Prerequisites: Dolphin Skills. Children will work on: Swimming underwater streamline for 3 body lengths, swimming freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke for 50 yards with flip turns, swimming breaststroke, butterfly, and sidestroke for 50 yards with open turns, tread water for 2 minutes using legs only, shallow angle dives WHALE. Prerequisites: Shark Skills. Children will work on: Swimming freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke for 100 yards with flip turns, swimming breaststroke, sidestroke and butterfly for 50 yards with open turns, tread water for 5 minutes, introduction to lifesaving skills including approach stroke, feet first surface dive, retrieval of objects from deep water. Private Lessons Ages: 3 years old - adults. Instruction is geared toward the individual student’s ability. Private lessons are offered Monday through Friday for a total of ten (10) 30-minute lessons. Masters Swim Masters Swim 18 yrs. & up Swimmers of all abilities are welcome to register. Previous competitive swimming experience not necessary. Drop-in fee: $10. Punchcard/10 swims (valid for 6 months): $80.
