Creative Photography Grades 6-8 Only Most people take photos spontaneously every day. You capture a moment in time instantly! But what if you took the time to think about your photo before you ever snapped it on your cell phone? In this class you will set up photo shoots that you might never have dreamed of! You’ll get messy with powder paint and have photography challenges where you have creative reign to setup your perfect shot. Images will be artistically displayed for the annual photography show! All you need is your cell phone camera and a creative spirit! Creative Writing Grades 6-8 Only Everyone has a story to tell, and we want to help them write it! We will help kids unleash their imaginations onto the blank page—and discover the fun that can come from writing! The course will encourage mindfulness, creative thinking, and build self-esteem in writing and literacy. Because every writer’s voice is unique, this is the class for the next great author of the world! Entrepreneurs – Creating a Grades 6-8 Only Business Plan Student teams will have a blast creating and running their own businesses. Work through the steps of product manufacturing, choosing a business location, and advertising. Raise money for a worthy cause while learning business management skills. Game Creation With Grades 4-5 Only MINECRAFT™ Learn to build and customize amazing virtual worlds. Explore the different roles required to develop a video game, including: programmer, game designer, architect and artist. Create maps, buildings and roller coasters to share with your peers. Get ready Minecraft™ is for game makers. Math Challenges Using Grades 6-8 Only Algebra and Geometry Develop problem-solving, visual-motor, and creative thinking skills while solving challenging and fun math projects. Use algebra and geometry to design flat patterns that fold into everyday three-dimensional objects. Apply your mathematical skills to solve equations that will lead you on a race around the globe. Math Quest – Problem Solving Grades 4-5 Only You’ll join a group and travel through “Numberland,” “Sportsland,” “Fantasyland,” and “Dinosaurland” in search of great treasure. Use six problem-solving strategies to move along the Math Quest Map in a race to become “Einsteinians.” This will be the most interesting math class you’ve ever taken. Speak Up! It’s time to let your personality shine! This public speaking class offers opportunities for students to develop confidence in their ability to speak in front of others in a supportive and collaborative environment. Key components of effective public speaking will be introduced and refined by students as they stand front and center on their own and in small group settings. Build confidence and prepare for future class presentations while having an exciting fun-filled experience! Yes, please! Sign me up! BLOSSOM HILL ONLY Drama, Drama, Drama! Lights, camera, action! This class offers you the opportunity to make characters come to life through scripts, movement and imagination. Students in this class will have the chance to learn basic acting skills while playing drama games, reading scripts, and using simple props. Practice different strategies to use expression when reading and acting in character. Perform individually, with a partner and as a class. Build your self- confidence and public speaking skills in a fun and safe setting. Outside Games Do you know the importance of playing outdoor games? This class offers a variety of outdoor games that are fun and engaging. They will be fast paced, unique and focus on teamwork and good sportsmanship. This class combines movement, learning and the outdoors. Let’s get moving! Author’s Study Do you like to read? When you read a book do you want to know more about the author and their art? Then this class is for you. In this class you will study an author, their work, and their art all while reading, writing and creating your own books. You will use your reading, writing and comparison skills. We will be covering at least two popular children’s book authors. Find out what makes these award-winning authors tick through some fun and engaging activities. FISHER AND REDWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOLS 3D Modeling & Printing Grades 4-5 and 6-8 3D Printing is a method of creation that requires only some basic computer skills and a few rules of thumb. This class will allow students to discover for themselves the potential and limitations of 3D Printing through a build intensive design project.
