FISHER MIDDLE SCHOOL ONLY Art Explosion Grades 4-5 Only This class is a creativity explosion with new art projects! Draw, paint, build, and create multiple 2D and 3D art projects. Work with a variety of media including paint, pastels, colored pencils, clay, and sculpting materials while learning valuable tricks and techniques that make art projects successful. We’ll create some amazing 2 dimensional art pieces as well as 3 dimensional creations. Individual creativity is explored and encouraged in this fun, fast moving class. Cake Decorating Grades 4-5 Only Learn the basics in decorating techniques for candy, cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. Dazzle your family and friends when you make their special cake or cupcakes with beautiful decorations. During your last week you will have a friendly “Cake Boss” competition. Students will take home their own kits filled with tips, a reusable decorating bag, and a recipe book. This course is taught by professional bakers – they really know their stuff! Cooking Around the Globe Grades 6-8 Only Learn the basics in decorating techniques for candy, cookies, cupcakes, and cakes. Design and Build It Grades 4-5 Only Unleash your creativity! Using the many crucial steps in an engineering design process, students will be able to design, build, and create challenges using a variety of materials such as LEGOs, K’NEX, and snap circuits. Understanding this process will equip students with an invaluable method of thinking and tools to use in real-life problem-solving situations, while focusing on force, motion, and energy. They will learn how to troubleshoot and rebuild what does not work the first time. This course will allow students to think outside the box and collaborate with others on a variety of tasks using a project-based learning model. Design and Code a Video Grades 6-8 Only Game This class will teach basic programming skills in a creative, fun, and easy-to-learn way! You can make GAMES, ANIMATIONS, ART, or just about anything. Students who want a fun creative challenge will find it in this course. Students will learn the fundamentals of programming (telling the computer what to do) while dragging colored blocks that fit together in specific sequences. Mixed Media Art Madness Grades 6-8 Only Explore and work with a variety of art materials creating NEW 2D and 3D art projects. Create with art materials including a variety of drawing tools, pastels, paint, and clay, as well as print media, found and recycled items, and textiles to create cool and creative pieces of art. Learn art techniques with a variety of materials while embracing your own creative style. This is a hands-on, fun, and fast moving class for all art abilities. Public Speaking and Debate Grades 6-8 Only Students will learn the skills and techniques required for public speaking communication skills, eye contact, voice projection, body contact and listening, and evaluation techniques. Students will practice presenting various types of speeches. Development of self-confidence and poise will be an integral part of this class. Public Speaking Through Grades 4-5 Only Storytelling Challenged by an old storyteller to bring back his dying art, students improve their literacy and geography skills by analyzing folk tales from various cultures and ultimately writing their own. Practice speaking techniques of projection, pace, and dramatic flair. Perform before parents and guests at a culminating Folk Tale Festival. Science! Science! Science! Grades 6-8 Only Science! Join us for hands-on, minds-on, science fun. This class will have something for everyone. Use teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to explore the world of scientific inquiry and discovery! Structural Design and Grades 6-8 Only Critical Thinking Channel your inner architect as you learn how to design structures, consider stresses, and integrate mechanical actions into structural projects. Explore the impact of external forces on structures. As you build more complex structures, use critical thinking skills to increase stability and function. Team Sports Grades 4-5 and 6-8 Join us for a variety of team sports for boys and girls. Increase your skills in baseball, basketball, soccer, football, and more. Cooperation, sportsmanship, teamwork, and playing are the focus of this fun filled class! No previous experience necessary.
