Special Interest BRIDGE Bridge – Beginning This course will introduce the mechanics and fundamentals of the three aspects of the game: bidding, play, and defense. Materials fee: $20. The South SF Bay is a great beginner’s paddle in the protected marshlands next to Redwood Creek, often spotting Harbor seals and many species of shorebirds. We will pull ashore on a white shell beach for a midday lunch, and a stretch before paddling home. BROTHERS LIGHTHOUSE KAYAK TRIP . We will paddle out the Carquinez Strait to the East Brothers Island and, if the winds are willing, we will circumnavigate the islands. Then we will pull ashore on Point San Pablo for a lunch stop before returning to our cars. NEW EAGLE PEAK HIKE . This sculpted outcrop of marine sandstone sits near the crest of Ben Lomond Mountain high above Big Basin State Park. At the top is the site of an old fire lookout, and the wild landscape of Big Basin and south across the Monterey Bay to the Santa Lucia range. Eagle Rock is a great adventure on a lightly used trail. BIRD WATCHING FUNDAMENTALS . An exciting introduction to the hobby of birding. Our evening class will discuss optics, field guides and the classification of major bird groups. Followed with a field trip to watch land birds and waterfowl. Informational meeting will be held on November 11th November 15th and 21st. Class locations will be discussed in the first meeting. NEW SANTA CRUZ MOUNTAINS WINE TASTING HIKE. This fall trip combines exercise for your body and palate! Our 5 mile roundtrip hike heads up the Zinfandel Trail in the Picchetti Preserve, with great views, native plants and fall foliage. At noon we will have lunch at the Picchetti Family Winery picnic grounds and participants can pay to have a small tasting before we hike back downhill. An informal, fun environment participants will use writing exercises as prompts to bring out the individual stories that will form the basis of each quilt piece.
