15 COVID-19 Safe Practices: Return to Campus Overview What steps have been taken by CLPCCD to address COVID-19 hazards in the workplace? CLPCCD facilities, in partnership with an environmental health & safety consulting company, has developed a site-specific COVID-19 Safety Plan for the Chabot, Las-Positas and District campuses. The safety plan includes global, area and task-specific Safe Work Practices. What regulatory guidance is used to develop the Safe Work Practices? Federal (CDC) State of California County of Alameda Guidance for Colleges, Universities, and Higher Learning Guidance for Vaccinated People Guidance for Institutes of Higher Learning Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Standard Alameda County Health Department California: Blueprint for a Safer Economy Purple –– Tier 1 In-person lectures prohibited. Red –– Tier 2 Lectures are permitted but must be limited to 25% capacity or 100 people , whichever is fewer, with modifications. Orange –– Tier 3 Lectures are permitted but must be limited to 50% capacity or 200 people , whichever is fewer, with modifications. Yellow –– Tier 4 Lectures are permitted but must be limited to 50% capacity , with modifications. What will my workspace and classroom look like? 1. Signage reinforcing the safe practices will be placed throughout campus. 2. Report violations and deficiencies related to the safe practices described below to your immediate supervisor or campus security. 1. Ventilation. All HVAC units have been modified to allow as much outside air intake as possible. Where feasible, windows and doors should be open while the area is occupied unless: a. The outside temperature is <60  F or >90  F b. The AQI is >100 (EPA Air Now) c. Environmental factors create a greater hazard (rain, wind, snow, etc.) 2. Filtration. Where possible, filter upgrades from MERV 8 to MERV 13 have been made on HVAC units. Supplemental room air filters may be purchased for areas or spaces where there is no mechanical or natural ventilation available. Selection of the unit appropriate for the size and use the space should be made in collaboration with CLPCCD facilities staff. 3. Air Flow . Personal fans or other directional air flow devices are not permitted in communal spaces. Where applicable, use of restroom exhaust fans, fume hoods and other mechanical exhaust systems is encouraged.
