ADDITIONAL WAYS TO SUPPORT YOUR STUDENT SUCCESS PSYCHOLOGY-COUNSELING COURSE OFFERINGS CLASS DESCRIPTION PSCN 2 3 units Intro to Case Management for Human Services: Provides knowledge in case management theory implementation for Human Service, Social Work and/ or Mental Health. PSCN 3 3 units Drugs, Recovery and Prevention: Introductory course in the epidemiology and toxicology of substance abuse and addiction and their effects on individuals and society at large. Basic terminology used in alcohol, psychoactive drugs and other related addiction terms will be covered. PSCN 5 3 units Intro to Social Work and Human Services: Introduces students to the human services field. Includes history, ethics, values, and principles of human and social services. PSCN 10 2 units Career & Educational Planning: Explore career development by looking at your interests, values, needs and skills. Designed to assist in making decisions about your career and educational plans. PSCN 12 2 units Self -Esteem for Success: Explore how to build self- esteem and methods for success. PSCN 13 3 units Multicultural Issues in Contemporary America: Focus on improving understanding of other cultures and how those cultures impact American lifestyle. PSCN 15 2 units College Study Skills: Review study skill techniques to improve success in college and earn better grades. PSCN 18 1 unit University/Transfer Planning: Resources and planning process needed to ease transition from community college to a four-year college or university. PSCN 20 2 units The College Experience: Explore academic programs, graduation and transfer requirements, student services and campus resources to improve your experience in college. PSCN 23 3 units College Readiness: Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that support adjustment to college. Learn about academic success strategies, campus resources and educational planning through self-reflection. PSCN 30 3 units Life Transitions: A re you a new or returning student? Dealing with a major life transition? Meet with other students like yourself to discuss making career, personal or academic decisions. “Matriculation” means a process that brings a college and a student into an agreement for the purpose of achieving the student’s educational goals and completing the student’s course of study. The agreement involves the responsibilities of both parties to attain those objectives through the college’s established programs, policies, and requirements. Matriculation Services include implementation of orientation, counseling and advising, referrals to student support services, and other education planning services needed to assist a student in making informed decisions about their educational goal. STUDENT EDUCATIONAL PLAN (SEP) 3 New first time incoming college students New, first time incoming college students should attend a First Semester Planning (FSP) session to create an abbreviated, one-semester Student Education Plan (SEP). The SEP is a plan of the classes you will take during your first semester that will start you on the right path toward your educational goal. Priority Registration will still be established by completing the following services: ONLINE ORIENTATION 1 Matriculation Services offer an online orientation to help with the transition to Chabot College for all students. The online orientation introduces students to the school’s programs, services, academic regulations, expectation, campus facilities, and student life. ASSESSMENT AND PLACEMENT 2 Per the passage of Assembly Bill 705 by the California State Legislature, Chabot College has a new placement process for English and Math. Students will use the “English Informed Course Selection” to select their first semester English course. For Math, students will use the “Math Guided Self Placement” to place themselves into an eligible math course that fits their program of study. These tools can be found and completed in your CLASS-Web account, under the Student Services tab. The Assessment Center will be available to support students through this process.
