Las Positas | Spring 2022 Class Schedule

After four years of service as an active duty marine, Kristi De Lashmutt decided to pursued her academic path at Las Positas College. She is majoring in psychology with plans to transfer to a four-year university. “I chose LPC because of the Las Positas College veterans first program. My cousin’s husband, a fellow veteran had told me that I should check out their program through the special orientation called ‘Operation Gateway’. After attending Operation Gateway, I was blown away by the amount of support for student veterans. I was so nervous returning to college after so many years, but the Veterans First Program provided me with all of the resources I needed to feel confident and excited for my educational journey.” “ S T U D E N T H I G H L I G H T S Following his exit from the Marines, Bekker enrolled at Las Positas College (LPC) and got involved with the college’s Veterans First Program and the Veterans Resource Center. Now, Bekker is in the Mechanical Engineering Master’s program at University of California, Davis. He is also working as a full-time Staff Mechanical Engineer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Materials Engineering Division. He attributes much of his success to the support services offered at LPC, but especially the Veterans First Program and the Veterans First Resource Center. “LPC was very accommodating to my needs during my transition into civilian life,” he said. “Veterans usually have completely different perspectives and experiences, and suddenly they’re attending class with younger students who are sometimes hard to relate to. Even now, I have more pride for my time spent at LPC than I do for the four-year college I transferred to.” “ Logan Bekker Associate of Science, Mechanical Engineering Kristi De Lashmutt Associate in Arts in Psychology
