Renovations and Closure In the coming Winter and Spring 2021-2022, major renovations will take place at Simpkins Family Swim Center. The planned renovations will include re-plastering of the 50m pool, resurfacing the cement of the lower pool deck, as well as other facility improvements. Due to these renovations, partial and full closures of the facility will be necessary. Please see below for a timeline of these renovations. RENOVATION TIMELINE December 23rd, 2021: Simpkins Family Swim Center closes for 50m pool renovations. January 3rd, 2022: Harvey West Pool opens for adult lap swim and SFSC programming. June 2022: Full facility scheduled to reopen for Summer 2022 programming. Exact reopen date TBD. Alternate Swimming Location at Harvey West Pool While the Swim Center is undergoing renovations, lap swim and some Swim Center programming such as Adult Fitness and Water Aerobics will be offered at Harvey West Pool. Harvey West Pool will open for public use on Monday, January 3rd. The center has four pools, and climbing wall, all of which are open seasonally. The 78-degree 17-lane Lap Pool , which is the largest in Santa Cruz County, is used for lap swimming, swim lessons, swim teams, water polo, junior lifeguards, adult fitness and water aerobics. The WarmWater Pool is used for recreational swimming, swim lessons, and therapy, and is kept at 88 degrees. It features a zero-depth entry ramp for easy wheelchair access. The Spray Zone splash and spray has a 6-inch depth, making it a perfect pool for tots: • Children who are non-swimmers must have direct adult supervision, at an arms reach, at all times. Age 8 and under must have direct adult supervision in the locker rooms and on the pool deck. • Admission is first-come, first-served. All persons entering the pool area are required to pay an admission fee. • For those not yet toilet trained, we adhere to a 2-layer policy. A swim diaper and plastic pants with elastic leg and waist bands must be worn.
