ONLINE ORIENTATION Matricula Ɵ on Services o ff er an online orienta Ɵ on to help with the transi Ɵ on to Chabot College for all students. The online orienta Ɵ on introduces students to the school’s programs, services, academic regula Ɵ ons, expecta Ɵ on, campus facili Ɵ es, and student life. ASSESSMENT AND PLACEMENT Per the passage of Assembly Bill 705 by the California State Legislature, Chabot College has a new placement process for English and Math. Students will use the “English Informed Course Selec Ɵ on” to select their fi rst semester English course. For Math, students will use the “Math Guided Self Placement” to place themselves into an eligible math course that fi ts their program of study. These tools can be found and completed in your CLASS-Web account, under the Student Services tab. The Assessment Center will be available to support students through this process. Student Educa Ɵ onal Plan (SEP) New, fi rst Ɵ me incoming college students should a Ʃ end a First Semester Planning (FSP) session to create an abbreviated, one- semester Student Educa Ɵ on Plan (SEP). The SEP is a plan of the classes you will take during your fi rst semester that will start you on the right path toward your educa Ɵ onal goal. Mul Ɵ culturalism in American society. Emphasis placed on issues and processes of aminority-majority environment. Includes review of demographics, social services, community agencies, and interven Ɵ on programs. Fundamental counseling techniques, counseling theory and socio- cultural issues related to working in the “service provider” role. PSCN 5 3 units Intro to Social Work and Human Services: Introduces students to the human services fi eld. Includes history, ethics, values, and principles of human and social services. PSCN 10 2 units Career & Educa Ɵ onal Planning: Explore career development by looking at your interests, values, needs and skills. Designed to assist in making decisions about your career and educa Ɵ onal plans. PSCN 12 2 units Self -Esteem for Success: Explore how to build self- esteem and methods for success. PSCN 13 3 units Mul Ɵ cultural Issues in Contemporary America: Focus on improving understanding of other cultures and how those cultures impact American lifestyle. PSCN 15 2 units College Study Skills: Review study skill techniques to improve success in college and earn be Ʃ er grades. PSCN 18 1 unit University/Transfer Planning: Resources and planning process needed to ease transi Ɵ on from community college to a four-year college or university. PSCN 23 3 units College Readiness: Develop cri Ɵ cal thinking and problem-solving skills that support adjustment to college. Learn about academic success strategies, campus resources and educa Ɵ onal planning through self-re fl ec Ɵ on. PSCN 85 3 units FIELDWORK: SOCIAL WORK AND HUMAN SERVICES: This course o ff ers the student a supervised fi eld experience in a community organiza Ɵ on, agency, or ins Ɵ tu Ɵ on, allowing the student to apply knowledge and learn new skills outside of the classroom environment. A weekly class mee Ɵ ng provides the academic element to this experien Ɵ al course o ff ering and reinforces the applica Ɵ on of concepts gained in the prerequisite courses. This course is designed to provide the student with an opportunity to develop skills that would facilitate gaining employment in the human services fi eld.
