Switching from film or diving into digital photography with a digital SLR camera can be a daunting leap. This course is for photographers with little or no experience with today’s Digital SLR cameras. Participants will advance past auto and into the buttons and menus that surround the camera inside and out. With hands-on your camera you will use various focus modes, change white balance and ISO, override the flash and discover the possibilities of your camera while gaining a deeper understanding of Program mode and camera presets. Participants will find out how, when and where to change the settings on their DSLR camera. Along the way, you will receive tips on composition and how to prepare for photo opportunities. Expose and compose specific subject matter with an emphasis on capturing beautiful fall colors. Class is hands-on learning and two field trips with a professional photographer to guide your photography and explore the camera settings for fall light. Class includes assignments and photo critique for guidance in improved photo composition. Come learn the secrets of making great photographs with a Focus on Fall. Discover the principals of creating depth in your photographs artists have understood for centuries but seldom get discussed in popular photography. Practice the art and technique of making photographic landscapes at two outings to local landscapes where we will venture for hands-on photography in the field. This class is hands-on techniques for taking photographs indoors using long exposures and existing lighting as well as understanding how and when to use flash. Bring your camera, manual(s), imagination and questions to class for hands-on low light photography. This course covers long exposures, self- time, mirror lock up, tripods, white balance, effectively use flash, focusing in low light, and special effect photography. Your digital device has become your photo album and there’s a lot more you can do to edit, showcase and share on your smart device. This class will lead you through the process. Together we will use the camera, organize, learn to edit using Snapseed. Share your digital photos from your iPhone or iPad on Instagram or through texting and email. Snapseed and Instagram applications can be downloaded prior to class or in class. Course No: 11.1017.21 Instructor: Vigeant Fee Dates Days Time Location Room Meetings $75 12/5-12/19 Th 12:30-3:30PM Vallco 2 3 Photography, Classic Black and White Many of the most powerful, memorable and effective photographs are black and white images. With digital photography though you can no longer take a great black and white photograph but you can create one using the black and white photography techniques. Students will be challenged to visualize the world in black and white and produce striking portrait, landscape and travel photographs. In this course, participants use a digital camera to take photos and use computer software photo editing techniques in post processing software to make Classic Black and White photographs. Class includes one off campus photography outing. Photoshop and other software will be used/demonstrated - no prior knowledge necessary. Bring your camera and charged batteries to first class. Course No: 11.1026.21 Instructor: Vigeant Fee Dates Days Time Location Room Meetings $100 11/26-12/17 T 1:00-3:30 PM Vallco 2 4 COMMUNITY INTEREST Sara Loesch-Frank has enjoyed teaching calligraphy, drawing and painting in the Bay area since 1976 and her passion is to encourage students to experiment with art and enjoy working with a variety of media.. Her work has been shown at international Calligraphy conferences, the National Cathedral in Washington, DC and she was chosen to show artwork in Chengde and Qufu, China. She currently team-teaches a class on The Science of Art Materials at Stanford and has taught for the Stanford Development office and for Facebook and Genentech employees.
