Chabot College | Summer-Fall 2024

CHABOT COLLEGE Helping Students Succeed Meet Chabot College alumnus, Danny Muñoz, who is currently a master’s degree candidate at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. During his time at Chabot, Muñoz was an active member of the Communications Lab staff, where he was recruited to be a tutor. In this role, he helped students with their public speaking and presentation skills. He also found a home with the Restorative Integrated Self-Education (RISE) program as a student worker. RISE provides support to formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students. During his time with RISE, he created awareness about the program and helped ease the transition into college through outreach, intake and onboarding efforts. It was through these Chabot College experiences, and others like them, that Muñoz gained a true sense of community. “It kind of gave me a sense of belonging,” shared Muñoz. “My peers and Chabot staff made me feel welcome.” With this support and Muñoz’s academic and personal drive, he graduated with a 4.0 and multiple degrees, and served as the keynote speaker at his graduation at Chabot. He attributes his time at Chabot with propelling him forward. “Without Chabot, I don’t think I’d be where I’m at today,” said Muñoz. “Chabot was really the beginning of my public service journey.” After graduation, Muñoz plans to enter a career that allows him to develop sound public policies that create opportunities and success pathways for children, especially those who are system-impacted.
