This distinction is what makes wine so such an enjoyable experience for such a broad range of palates. In this class, participants will be challenged through a blind-tasting format to decipher the origin of each wine as we touch on the classic winemaking regions of the world. Now, this class is for everyone and not a test .. so, sit back, relax and allow Sommelier Paul to guide you through this fun and engaging game of “so where does this come from?” Course No: 12.2020.35 Instructor: Robinson Fee Dates Days Time Location Room Meetings $75 3/18 W 6:30-8:30 PM Vallco 3 1 Wine, Vessels Wood, stainless steel, clay, cement, there are many types of vessels in which to hold, ferment or age wine. In this class, we learn all about the different types of barrels, casks and other vessels in which a winemaker can choose to make their wine. Learn the barrel-making process and the subtle differences between French and American oak. Ever had a wine aged in clay amphora? You will, and trust me they are awesome! Join Sommelier Paul as he walks participants through the different expressions each vessel, be it stainless, clay, cement or oak, is reflected in the glass. In this class, Sommelier Paul will pour a collection of wines from Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, Monterey and the Sonoma coast. Come explore the benchmark AVA’s for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah, as we discuss climate, soil and the many geographical nuances the coastline provides. The line-up will feature a collection of small producers making handcrafted and quality-driven wines. Join Sommelier Paul on a journey into the Napa Valley through 7 wines showcasing the appellations and mountain ranges which make this distinct area perfect for growing grapes. We will visit Oakville, Rutherford and the Vaca and Mayacamas mountain ranges to discuss the prominent grapes, winemaking methods and benchmark winemakers who have shaped the region into the vinous juggernaut it is today. It rocked the world of wine and put California on the map. In this class, we trace that seminal tasting from its inception, to the effects it had on the world of wine. Sommelier Paul will be pouring a selection of 8 wines, all blind tasted in our very own Judgement in Paris. This class will be a fun and engaging comparative-tasting of wines, set against the backdrop of the Paris tasting which changed it all! Join us, test your mettle and see if you can determine the French from the American wines! Join Sommelier Paul on a deep-dive exploring this prodigious grape and the regions of the world where it flourishes. We will visit the Alpine slopes of Germany and Italy, the Abby’s of Burgundy and the western coastline of the United States to reveal why this transparent varietal is so seductive to the winemakers of the world.
