Prerequisite: ENGL 102 (completed with a grade of “P” or higher) or Eligibility for: ENGL 1 as determined by multiple measures or other appropriate method. Advisory: ENGL 1 (completed with a grade of “C” or higher) or ENGL 1A (completed with a grade of “C” or higher) ENGL 11B INTERMEDIATE CREATIVE WRITING 3 Units This course offers practice in creative writing at an intermediate level. Builds on the skills developed in ENGL 11A including fiction, poetry, and play writing, using materials drawn from individual’s own work and selected texts. Prerequisite: ENGL 11A (completed with a grade of “C” or higher) ENGL 11C ADVANCED CREATIVE WRITING 3 Units English 11C is a course that offers practice in creative writing at an advanced level. It builds on the skills developed in English 11A/B including fiction, poetry, and play writing, using materials drawn from individual’s own work and selected texts. Completion of: ENGL 11B (completed with a grade of “C” or higher) ENGL 202 NONCREDIT READING AND WRITING 0 Units Preparation for academic reading, critical thinking, and writing expected in transfer and associate-degree classes. This course is tuition free and students may repeat this course until mastery of the skills is met. Noncredit course that is equivalent to the English 102 credit course of the same title. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE See page 70 for more information about the English as a Second Language department. ESL 112 ENGLISH GRAMMAR-REVIEW FOR ESL 3 Units Intermediate-level review of the structures of English grammar. Important grammatical forms including verb tenses, the passive voice, conditional sentences, modal auxiliaries, and reported speech; adjective clauses, articles, and gerunds and infinitives may also be included as time allows. Strongly recommended: Eligibility for ESL 110C. ESL 210 PREP FOR ACADEMIC ESL READING 0 Units This FREE, noncredit, academic ESL reading and vocabulary course is part of a three course noncredit Certificate of Competency in Preparation for college ESL. Upon completing this course, students will be ready to read at a level appropriate for ESL 110A, the first course in our ESL credit courses. Students will be placed into noncredit courses by the ESL placement process. Students may take ESL 210 concurrently with ESL 220 and ESL 230 to earn their Certificate of Competency and to be fully prepared for ESL 110A. ESL 230 PREP FOR ACADEMIC ESL LISTENING/SPEAKING 0 Units This FREE, noncredit, academic ESL listening and speaking course is part of a three course noncredit Certificate of Competency in Preparation for college ESL. Upon completing this course, students will have the listening comprehension skills and oral fluency appropriate for ESL 110A, the first course in our ESL credit courses. Students will be placed into noncredit courses by the ESL placement process. Students may take ESL 230 concurrently with ESL 210 and ESL 220 to earn their Certificate of Competency and to be fully prepared for ESL 110A. ESL 242A LOW INTERMEDIATE LISTENING & SPEAKING 0 Units This is a noncredit course in ESL Listening and Speaking at the Low Intermediate Level. ENTR 1 INTRODUCTION TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP 3 Units Introduction to the key concepts and skill requirements for new business creation. Evaluation of personal entrepreneurship skills. Emphasis on identifying business opportunities, and process of planning for new venture start-up. ENTR 5 THE ENTREPRENEURIAL MINDSET 3 Units A study of social and business entrepreneurs throughout history and around the world. An exploration of the traits that enable entrepreneurs to thrive in vastly different cultures and eras, and the important contributions made by these innovators. ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES See page 71 for more information about the Environmental Studies department. ENST 1 INTRODUCTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES 3 Units An interdisciplinary investigation of environmental issues, including perspectives on environmental change and quality from the vantage points of history, geography, anthropology, philosophy and ethics, law, politics, economics, and social justice.
