Chabot College • Summer and Fall 2024 Class Schedule 76 510.723.6600 • www.chabotcollege.edu/welcome24 FALL 2023 COURSES HIS 49 U.S. WOMEN’S HISTORY POST-RECONSTRUCTION 3 Units A survey of United States women’s history from 1877 to the present with a special emphasis on the interaction amongst and the experiences of diverse racial/ethnic (African Americans, European Americans, Indigenous North Americans, Chicana/Latina Americans, Asian Americans, and Middle Eastern Americans), and socio-economic groups in American history. Includes analysis of (1) the U. S. Constitution as a living document in the context of historical change, and (2)significant issues related to California state and local governments. HIS 52 US HIST CHICANO PERSPECTIVE I 3 Units A survey of the social, political, economic, and cultural history of the Chicana/o experience within the context of U.S. history from Mesoamerican origins to the Reconstruction era. May not receive credit is ES 52 has been completed successfully. HIS 62 AFRICAN-AMER HIS THR CIVIL WAR 3 Units A survey of the social, political, economic, and cultural history of the African American experience within the context of U.S. history from Early African History to the end of the Civil War. (May not receive credit if HIS 20, ES 20, or ES 62 has been completed successfully.) HUMAN SERVICES* (See course listing under Psych-Counseling) HUMANITIES You will gain the ability to reason critically, effectively communicate, and relate across a wide variation of knowledge. Some courses can be taken to fulfill various General Education Requirements, or carry transfer credit and can prepare you for transferring to earn a four-year degree in applicable majors. HUMN 60 CREATIVITY AND THE COMMUNITY 3 Units The Arts as an expression of the community; the relationship between creativity and community; the artist as the conscience of society and the role of the audience in completing an artwork. Themes include the artist as prophet, art as transformative experience, the arts and social justice, and the shock of the new. HUMN 65 THE AMERICAN STYLE 3 Units Humanities in the United States. Major works of literature, painting, sculpture, architecture, film, music, philosophy, science, religion, and political and social institutions. Particular attention to values and meanings that reflect the American cultural experience. HUMN 68 WORLD MYTHOLOGY 3 Units Introduction to mythic themes recurring in global literature. Key theories and a variety of myths from around the world will be read, analyzed, and discussed. Course content will center on broad themes and theories, (Formerly HUMN 28) INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY INDT 74 MEASUREMENTS & CALCULATIONS 3 Units Calculator techniques for whole number and decimal arithmetic problem solving, fraction-decimal conversion, percentages, ratio and proportion, algebra, geometry, areas and volumes. English metric conversion, and numerical trigonometry as applied in the industry. May not receive credit is APPM 9774 has been completed successfully. INTERIOR DESIGN The Interior Design Program is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and has been selected by the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association (NKBA) as a Founding Member School. The Interior Design Program offers you a choice for entry into a four-year college program, the interior design industry, and internship opportunities. As a NKBA Affliated school, our program leads students on the path of becoming a certified kitchen and bath design professionals. Students will acquire an understanding of: • Building materials and construction • Space planning • Conventional and computer aided drafting Our program focuses on the impact interior design has on individuals, families, and communities. ID 48 DRAFTING FOR INTERIOR DESIGN 3 Units This course will introduce basic drafting techniques as related to architectural working drawings for interior design. Emphasis is on lettering, measuring techniques, scale problems, use of architectural and NKBA graphic standards. ID 49 DIGITAL TOOLS FOR DESIGN/VISUAL COMM 3 Units Introduction to digital tools with computer-aided design drafting. The course will use state of the art digital drafting software as industrial standard. Students will develop skills in 2 dimensional commands and layering systems. May not receive credit if ARCH 3 or ARCH 68 has been completed. ID 50 RESIDENTIAL SPACE PLANNING 3 Units Understand the residential construction system and learn how to design a residential space by considering home location, climate orientation, aesthetics and economy. Strongly Recommended: ID 48. ID 54 PRINCIPLES OF INTERIOR DESIGN 3 Units The course is intended to provide students with the knowledge of elements and principles of design as they apply to interiors and to analyze interiors using basic design concepts. Emphasis is on the use of color and texture in the selection of home furnishings. ID 55 INTRODUCTION TO TEXTILES 3 Units The textile industry and its effects on the apparel and home furnishings markets. Fiber identification, yarn and fabric construction, and decoration. Emphasis on consumer information, fabric performance, care and labeling, and legal responsibilities of the industry. ID 58 FUNDAMENTALS OF LIGHTING 3 Units Residential and commercial lighting systems as they apply to what constitutes a well-lit interior space. Includes an investigation of current lighting fixtures and lighting resources. Strongly Recommended: ID 48 (completed with a grade of “C” or higher) ID 60 MATERIALS AND RESOURCES 3 Units Survey of residential and commercial interior furnishings with attention to product knowledge of furniture, textiles, ceramics, glass, metals, plastics, and composite materials. Skills needed to perform related activities.
